A turbine agitator is a mechanical mixing device driven by an electric motor, consisting of a drive (motor + gearbox), shaft, and a turbine-type impeller. The impeller typically features 4–6 curved or pitched blades mounted on a central disc, resembling a marine propeller or hydroelectric turbine — this is where the name “turbine agitator” comes from.
Unlike radial-flow impellers (e.g. Rushton turbines), turbine agitators primarily generate strong axial flow (top-to-bottom circulation), making them ideal for applications requiring bulk motion and uniform mixing rather than high shear.
Power TransmissionThe motor rotates the shaft at 50–1500 RPM (depending on tank size and process requirements).
Axial Pumping ActionAs the pitched-blade turbine impeller rotates, liquid is drawn in from the top (or bottom, depending on rotation direction) and forcefully discharged downward (or upward) along the shaft axis.
Full Tank CirculationThe discharged liquid travels along the tank bottom, rises along the vessel walls, and is pulled back toward the impeller — forming powerful top-to-bottom turnover loops.
Turbulence & BlendingMultiple baffles are usually installed to convert axial flow into controlled turbulence, ensuring rapid mixing and preventing vortex formation.
Superior Pumping Efficiency Delivers 4–5 times higher flow rate than radial turbines at the same power, achieving full tank turnover in just 30–90 seconds.
Massive Tank Capacity Handling Single unit effortlessly handles tanks from 1 m³ up to 500,000+ liters — proven in 100,000L+ fermentation and reaction vessels worldwide.
Exceptional Energy Savings High-efficiency hydrofoil impellers (A320, HE-3, AFX) reduce power consumption by 25–35%, with typical energy usage as low as 0.08–0.15 kWh per ton of liquid.
Fully Customizable Design Impeller diameter, blade angle, materials (316L, Duplex, Titanium, Hastelloy, PTFE/Rubber-lined), speed, and mounting fully tailored to your exact process needs.
Low Shear — Gentle on Sensitive Materials Tip speeds controlled at 3–6 m/s, ideal for shear-sensitive applications (cell cultures, polymers, food emulsions, yeast), increasing viability/yield by 15–30%.
Outstanding Solids Suspension Capability Achieves uniform suspension at up to 60% wt solids (minerals, alumina, TiO₂ slurries) with low Just-Suspended Speed (Njs), eliminating settling.
Extremely Low Maintenance & Long Service Life Open-impeller design resists clogging, quick-release hub, dynamically balanced to G2.5, 10+ year lifespan, downtime reduced by over 90%.
Unmatched Versatility Across Industries One agitator handles blending, suspension, heat transfer, and homogenization — widely used in water treatment, chemicals, food & beverage, pharmaceuticals, lithium battery precursors, and hydrometallurgy.
Dominates large-scale liquid processes — Widely used in huge tanks from 10 m³ to over 8,000 m³, especially in water treatment, mining, and new energy materials.
First choice for solid suspension — Best at keeping high-density solids (40–60% wt) fully suspended without settling (minerals, precursors, sludge, pigments).
Perfect for low-to-medium shear processes — Ideal for biological fermentation, cell culture, food, and pharmaceuticals where product must not be damaged.
Excellent heat transfer & blending performance — Provides uniform temperature and fast blending in chemical reactors, storage tanks, and food processing.
Covers almost all major industries — Water/wastewater, chemicals, food & beverage, pharma/biotech, paints, mining, lithium batteries, biofuels — turbine agitators are the universal standard.
